Instagram is part of the social media hype. It is when individuals post pictures online for sharing and entertainment. Kevin Systrome, CEO of Instagram stated that it was released in 2010 and was one of the most downloaded applications just 24 hours after it was launched.
Stephanie Buck, author of the article the beginners guide to Instagram states that the “mobile app boasts over 50 million users and its success caught the eye of the most valuable social network in the world. Facebook acquired Instagram in April for $1 billion”

Installing Instagram
- Go to the app store on your phone or computer and download the Instagram app. To make it easy search for ‘Instagram’ in the app store.
- Open the application once it has finished downloading.
- You can create an account by clicking ‘sign up’. You will need to provide your e-mail address, a username and a password. If you already have an account then just log in.
- You can choose if you would like to include your personal information about yourself in the ‘About’ section.
- Once you have finished updating your account, you have the choice of selecting ‘friends’ from your contact list that you would like to ‘follow’. You can also find friends that are on Facebook or Twitter. If you want to ‘follow’ someone, all you have to do is select ‘follow’ next to their name. Remember that clicking ‘follow’ allows you to see your friends’ updates in your home page.
- When you are finished, you can select ‘Done”. The application will take you to the home page.
- When you want to do a new post, click on the + icon in the top left corner. Whatever you post will be visible to your friends and followers.
- In order to view your accounts activity you can click on the ‘heart’ icon
- Instagram also has a news feed when a someone likes or comments on one of your pictures. In order to see which picture they commented on just click the notification in the new feed.
- Your own profile can be viewed by clicking on the account icon
